Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Head of Finance. This role is pivotal in driving our financial strategy, overseeing fund management, and ensuring the efficient utilization of resources. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing funds and credit tools, with a focus on deploying a revolving credit fund to improve access to capital for healthcare providers in SSA.
Key tasks and responsibilities:

- Financial Strategy Development: Lead the development and implementation of Axmed’s financial strategy, aligning it with organizational goals and objectives. Provide strategic guidance on financial decision-making and resource allocation.
- Fund Management: Oversee the deployment and management of a revolving credit fund aimed at improving access to capital for healthcare providers in SSA. This includes identifying investment opportunities, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Financial Planning and Analysis: Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting to support strategic decision-making and ensure financial sustainability. Utilize advanced analytical tools and techniques to optimize financial performance.
- High-Level Accounting Practices: Implement and maintain high-level accounting practices, including accrual accounting, revenue recognition, and expense management. Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and international accounting standards.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks associated with fund management and operational activities. Develop risk management strategies to safeguard Axmed’s financial assets and reputation.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal stakeholders, board members, and external partners. Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements and provide insights into financial performance.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and investors to ensure alignment and transparency in financial operations. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and communicate financial insights effectively.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial regulations, standards, and reporting requirements applicable to Axmed’s operations. Stay abreast of changes in regulatory requirements and implement necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.
- Team Leadership: Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the Leadership team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Build a high-performing finance function capable of supporting Axmed’s growth objectives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field. MBA or relevant professional certification (e.g., CFA, CPA) preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in finance, with a focus on corporate finance, ideally in the sector of fund management, credit tools, and financial analysis.
- Proven track record of successfully managing funds, including experience with revolving credit funds, impact financing or similar financial instruments. Especially strong skills in evaluating the creditworthiness of borrowers and understanding of credit scoring systems and loan structuring.
- Proven exposure to loan portfolio Management, ensuring diversification and balanced risk. Capability to monitor and report on the performance of the credit fund
- Strong understanding of financial markets, investment principles, and risk management strategies.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and influence decision-making.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Experience in the healthcare sector or emerging markets, particularly in SSA, is a plus.

Job location: Nairobi, Remote
Languages: Excellent command of the English language is a requirement. Other languages (i.e French) are an asset.
Work schedule: We are a young startup, so we focus on delivering results, not filling hours of work. However, as a reference, candidates can expect to normally work within normal office hours per week (Monday-Friday).
Interview Process: There will be two interviews with the Talent and Leadership team, including COO and CEO. Further details will be shared based on availability.
Salary: USD 60,000 – 85,000 USD depending on candidate’s profile and experience
