Prof. Dafny is a leading expert on competitive interactions among payers and providers of healthcare services, and the intersection of industry and public policy. Her work has been published in academic journals such as The American Economic Review and The New England Journal of Medicine, and featured in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Current projects include studies of prescription drug assistance and coupon programs, organizational structure of the healthcare sector, policy proposals to optimize and contain healthcare spending, and employer- sponsored health insurance.
Dafny was Deputy Director for Healthcare and Antitrust (2012-13) in the Bureau of Economics at the US Federal Trade Commission. She also serves as a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research as well as on numerous editorial boards. She also sits on the Panel of Health Advisers for the Congressional Budget Office and advises companies, government agencies, and nonprofits on a variety of issues including antitrust matters, strategic decisions, and public policy.
Dafny holds a graduate degree from Harvard University and worked at McKinsey & Company prior to earning her PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
